"Don't screw me over!"
Norris blew off the dangerous levels of steam by singing the rest of the Swift song at the top of her lungs. When she a arrived at her building, the Cohort, she was just as nervous as she usually was. She had not thought of an excuse other than doing normal work duties. If accountants or IT groups were there on a Saturday morning they were there to do a special project. More importantly it meant they would not bother her. But if her boss came in he would quickly see her presence as an anomaly. I'm not hiding anything from him I just don't want to be bothered, Norris rationalized.
Relief swept over her when she saw a quiet group of accountants on the far end of her floor and her boss' office door closed and the light off. She thought of Adam suddenly and unintentionally. She hoped he would do the dishes and feed the cat. Maybe he's still watching TV and I would like to be with him. But I have a mission today. Norris crossed the hall slowly but not too slow. She landed in her chair and closed the door. She had to figure out what Grant had to do with the recent thefts because his file was one that was stolen. If she knew why his file was taken she could know why the rest were.
She had known Grant for a few years while he was in the United States as an investigative journalist. But when he returned to Newtopia she never saw him again. She still worked with some of his banking transactions that were made from the Newtopian treasury to his personal bank account. She did not know all of her accounts; she had over a hundred. And some may still be targets of theft or identity theft, Norris shuttered thinking. She felt so weak all of a sudden. This whole time I had been looking back when I should have been looking forward. I have to warn them. But then they'll panic. It all came raining down. The hierarchy of emergency protocol procedures mapped its way through her brain. She pulled out the big black binder of corporate policy with the laminated cover titled as such. She read the first section pertaining to identity theft:
1. If a client's information is taken be sure to notify them immediately.
1.a. Notification past 30 days of theft is in violation of contracts in categories a, c, d, and all 583-form contacts.
1.a.1. All remaining contacts require notification within 20 days.
1.b. If it is unclear whether sensitive information has been compromised an investigation should be initiated within 6 days of first notice.
1.c. Clients have the right to ask if their information is under investigation for security breaches or identity theft.
