"They were all shipped back to their home countries,"
Secretary for Ambassador Quincy's office
The company often realized things too late. In this case they would blame her if personal information had been stolen from their clients. She began an e-mail:
Tod,
The thefts warrant notification on our part to the clients; their personal information may be in jeopardy. I will notify them ASAP according to the guidelines but I do not want to start a panic. How do you advise?
Thanks,
N
She exited the company's intranet e-mail service and opened up the software that processed their client information. She searched Grant's recent transactions in the past 30 days. Should be inactive; being in prison usually ties up your investments. Grant's account was nearly completely inactive except for a single, huge deposit two days ago. The automated description of the deposit referenced a McDonald franchise in Brussels. What McDonalds is paying an ambassador $20,000? This seemed to be the opposite of theft but she felt that Grant should still be warned.
She called the number attached to Grant's file which she knew was his Newtopian office number. A man answered the phone.
"Ambassador Quincy office,"
"Yes, hi. I am calling to get in touch with Ambassador Seamus Grant."
"Ex-Ambassador Grant has been imprisoned for international crimes of espionage." The young secretary answered authoritatively.
"Yes, I know. See I was wondering if there was a number for his lawyer or any way to contact him. See I-"
"You can call the Cretan holding facility's front desk number, I have the number to that." Then the secretary left the script and said, "But you know what lady, I heard they were all shipped away. They were all shipped back to their home countries. So that would mean Grant is in a Newtopian prison. I do not have the number to that; there are a bunch of them."
"When, when did they transfer?" Norris asked quickly.
"I heard two days ago."
"Ok thanks a lot."
Why would a McDonalds franchise send him $20,000 the day he was released? Norris' heart skipped a beat when the software refreshed it's network and identified a new payment to Grant's account for another $20,000.
